Achieve beautiful and symmetrical ears!
Otoplasty: What It Is
Otoplasty, also known as ear reshaping surgery, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the appearance and positioning of the ears.
It is a safe, relatively quick procedure with minimal downtime, and can be performed at almost any age — though it is often recommended during childhood if needed. The most common form of otoplasty involves correcting protruding ears.
This surgery allows patients to enjoy well-shaped, symmetrical ears that complement their facial features.
Who Is Otoplasty For?
Otoplasty is suitable for both adults and children who wish to enhance the appearance of their ears.
Ears play a significant role in facial balance, and prominent or asymmetrical ears may lead to reduced self-esteem — especially in school-age children or adults who have suffered ear trauma or congenital deformities.
Otoplasty provides a long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing solution, boosting confidence and improving quality of life.
Otoplasty in Children
In many cases, otoplasty is recommended in early childhood, when ear cartilage is more pliable and fully formed (typically around age 6). This helps prevent emotional distress and teasing at school or social settings.
While ear deformities rarely affect hearing, they can strongly impact a child’s psychological well-being. Otoplasty can restore harmony to the face and help children feel more comfortable with their appearance.

Book your appointment today! The Otoplasty Procedure
Otoplasty is a straightforward and safe outpatient procedure.
A small incision (approximately 3–4 cm) is typically made behind the ear, hidden in the natural crease. In more complex cases, an incision may be placed at the front of the ear.
The surgeon reshapes and secures the cartilage with sutures to achieve the desired shape and position. In cases requiring ear size reduction, excess skin may also be removed.
- Surgery Duration: ~1 to 3 hours
- Anesthesia:
- Local anesthesia or sedation for adults
- General anesthesia for children
- No hospital stay required
After the procedure, ears are covered with protective dressings, which are removed after 5 days.
The results are immediate, visible, and permanent.
Recovery After Otoplasty
After surgery, patients must wear a soft protective headband for 2 weeks, including during sleep, to keep the ears in place and prevent infection.
- Adults: Can return to daily activities after ~2 days
- Children: May return to school after ~1 week
- All patients should avoid heavy lifting and intense physical activity for at least 2 weeks
Special care should be taken during recovery to avoid injury or infection.
Is Otoplasty Painful?
Otoplasty is generally not painful. Minor swelling or discomfort may occur during the first few days and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief medication.
Otoplasty Cost
The cost of otoplasty varies depending on:
- The specific case and anatomy of the patient
- The complexity of the correction
- The technique used
Ear appearance has a profound impact on facial harmony and self-image.
