Breast Lift: What It Is
Every woman’s breasts are unique and a very personal feature. They symbolize femininity and life itself, as they are closely connected to breastfeeding.
Over time, and due to other factors, it is natural for breasts to change and lose their original firmness.
This is where a breast lift comes in. It is a surgical procedure that improves the shape of the breasts.
It involves removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. The goal is to reposition the nipple and the breast to a higher position, so the chest appears perkier and returns to a more natural, youthful shape.

Why Do Breasts Change?
ΤA woman’s breasts can change, sag, and lose their elasticity for many reasons.
More specifically:
- Aging: One of the main causes of sagging breasts.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: A woman’s body, and therefore her breasts, go through major changes during and after childbirth and breastfeeding.
- Weight fluctuations: Whether gaining or losing weight, changes can affect the breasts.
- Breast weight and size
- Genetics
These factors may act independently or in combination, ultimately leading to breast sagging.
Who Is It For – Why Consider a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is mainly for women experiencing visible sagging due to various reasons.
It’s suitable for women whose breasts have lost firmness due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or sudden weight loss.
A breast lift significantly improves the position and appearance of the breasts, boosting a woman’s confidence. That’s why many women choose to undergo this procedure for aesthetic reasons.
The decision is entirely personal and should be respected, based on each woman’s needs and desires.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?
Women who typically undergo a breast lift:
- Are non-smokers (smoking is a contraindication)
- Have unevenly positioned breasts
- Are unhappy with how their breasts feel or look
- Have downward-facing nipples or areolas
- Feel their breasts have lost volume and shape
Breast Lift Procedure – How It’s Done
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The plastic surgeon makes incisions, which vary depending on the type of lift. Through these incisions, the surgeon removes excess skin and lifts the breast gland.
If needed—or requested by the patient—the surgeon reshapes the tissue and sculpts the breast. The nipples are usually repositioned higher to maintain full functionality.
After the Procedure
The results are immediately visible, but the final appearance takes shape after a few months.
An overnight hospital stay is usually recommended, and normal daily activities can resume within 2–3 days. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are strictly prohibited.
It is normal to feel pain or swelling in the breast area after surgery, but this should not be a cause for concern.
Dressings are removed by the surgeon after 3–5 days. Any swelling will gradually subside.
After removing the dressings, the patient must wear a supportive bra for about a month.
Are There Possible Complications?
Like any surgery, a breast lift carries some risks, such as:
- Infection
- Poor wound healing
- Hypertrophic (raised) scars
- Minor asymmetry
- Fluid accumulation
- Hematoma (bruising)
- Irregular contours or breast shape
- Bleeding
To minimize the risk of complications, choosing a qualified plastic surgeon is essential.
Results of a Breast Lift
It’s important to note that a breast lift does not affect breast volume—it improves shape.

Breast Lift: Cost
The cost of the procedure depends on several factors, such as the degree of breast sagging, the materials used, and the complexity of the surgical work required.
